How it works

Quotes from local electricians in three steps

  1. Step 1

    Post your job

Tell us what the report found, add photos and your report. It takes two minutes.

  2. Step 2

    Compare quotes

Up to 5 local electricians can quote. Ask them questions in messages.

  3. Step 3

    Accept and get it fixed

Accept the quote you want, pay the electrician directly and keep the completion certificate with your EICR.

Who you contract with

Your contract for the work is with the electrician whose quote you accept, not RentalComply. You pay them directly through their own payment link. RentalComply introduces you, doesn't take payment for remedial work and isn't a party to the contract.

Only members of a competent person scheme (such as NICEIC or NAPIT) can quote. We check their scheme membership and insurance documents, and the electrician is responsible for the work, its certificates and any building regulations notification.

Understanding your report

What the EICR codes mean

  • C1

    Danger present

There is a risk of injury now. It must be made safe straight away - often the inspector does this before leaving.

  • C2

    Potentially dangerous

Not dangerous yet, but could become so. Urgent remedial work is needed.

  • FI

    Further investigation

The inspector could not finish checking something and it needs investigating without delay.

  • C3

    Improvement recommended

Not a reason for an unsatisfactory report, but worth doing.

In England, if a report for a rented home lists C1, C2 or FI items, landlords must have the remedial work or investigation done within 28 days, or sooner if the report says so. You then give written confirmation that the work is done to your tenants and the local council within 28 days of it being finished.

FAQs

Earthing and bonding: common questions

Who can do earthing and bonding work?

A qualified electrician. Most of this work is notifiable under Part P of the Building Regulations in England and Wales, so a member of a competent person scheme such as NICEIC or NAPIT can self-certify it. Only scheme members can quote on RentalComply.

What paperwork will I get?

An Electrical Installation Certificate or a Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate for the work, and for notifiable work a Building Regulations compliance certificate from the electrician's scheme. Keep them with your EICR.

How much does it cost?

It depends on the property and what the report found, so you get quotes for your job. Post it and compare up to 5.

Who is my contract with?

The electrician whose quote you accept. You pay them directly through their own payment link, and they are responsible for the work. RentalComply introduces you and is not a party to the contract.
